AJ Allmendinger to compete at Berlin Raceway Tuesday June 15; Richard Petty Motorsports driver to compete in Modified to benefit Helen DeVos Childrens Hospital Foundation

Marne, MI – NASCAR competitor AJ Allmendinger will venture to West Michigan on Tuesday, June 15, to compete in the largest events in Berlin Raceway’s 60 year history. Allmendinger will climb behind the wheel of the #97 RacingAwareness.com Modified, which competes to raise money for the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

The  NASCAR Sprint Cup driver, who drives for The King, Richard Petty, will make his Marne debut in the Auto Body Xperts CARSTAR 50, Model Coverall Modified feature. AJ stated that he was excited to race in support of the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“I can’t wait to get to Berlin. It’s a track I have heard so much about. What makes this really cool is racing for the kids. This is a great cause for a great resource in West Michigan and I hope we raise a lot of money. We truly want to make this a special night; I hope I have a chance to meet a lot HDVCH families and the kids,” said Allmendinger.

Allmendinger grew up in California making a name for himself in  open wheel race cars early in his career and was considered to be one of the top go  kart racers in the country. The karting experience paid off, moving up quickly to compete in the CART Indy Car Series where he was a five-time winner in 2004, before moving to NASCAR.

The jump to  NASCAR though was a rocky one, signing first with  Red Bull Toyota. Now driving for  Richard Petty, Allmendinger said NASCAR took some getting used to, “It was a huge jump. I’m learning everyday and feel that as a team, we have made great strides.”

Allmendinger surprised a lot of people leading the  Daytona 500 this past February. He showed that it was no fluke finishing 6th at Atlanta and giving  King Richard his first pole as an owner since 1998 when he put the Valvoline Ford on the point in Phoenix.

Allmendinger will join NASCAR Champion Kyle “Rowdy” Busch and Chase Elliott, who are both competing in the CRA Super Series Rowdy’s Revenge 251 presented by Keyser’s Port City Racing.

Families that belong to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital will have the opportunity to meet-n-greet AJ on June 15. One lucky family will be chosen at random and get a chance to meet the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver. He will also sign autographs on the concourse prior to the races that night as well.

Tickets for adults are $20.00, kids 6-15 only $5.00 and seniors 60 and over are $18.00. Tickets are available online today, by visiting www.berlinracway.com, or by calling 616-662-2051.
